Suicidal thoughts and attempts as well as other self-harming behaviors are symptomatic of a number of mental health conditions, including borderline personality disorder, bipolar disorder, depression, and anorexia, among others.

There is one factor that is critical to the prevention of suicide and that is the topic of an upcoming event in the US House of Representatives: the crucial role of families in the effort to prevent suicide by a loved one.

On Tuesday, May 22, from 12 Noon to 1 PM, several members of congress and experts in suicide prevention will participate in a panel discussion organized by the National Education Alliance for Borderline Personality Disorder (NEA-BPD). And you are invited to hear and to be heard. There is no cost to attend and lunch will be served.

If you live in the Washington DC area or are able to travel there here is more information about the event.
