It’s no surprise to hear that having a pet can boost feelings of well-being in Tabby or Fido’s owner. Now there is scientific proof that this also occurs in people who struggle with issues of self-esteem due to their borderline personality disorder.

A new research study conducted at Curtin University, in Benton, Western Australia has found pet ownership can have a powerfully positive impact on people living with BPD.

The research, published in the journal Advances in Mental Health, found that owning a pet led to improved social skills, increased community engagement, and the overall level of involvement in meaningful activities among the study’s participants.

You can read more about the study in the July 10, 2018 online edition of Psychology & Psychiatry. You can also read the study abstract.online as well.

So please make certain to give your pets lots of ear scratches and belly rubs everyday. You’ll feel better, and so will they!
