“Splitting behavior is a tendency to think of the world strictly in black and white. In other words, you see things in extremes and absolute terms, without acknowledging that there are grey areas and that most relationships and situations in life are entirely nuanced.
Examples of splitting are seeing everybody as either very good (idealized) or very bad (beyond redemption) with no in-between, or thinking that life is wholly positive or negative. Those splitting can tend to speak and think in these absolute terms, saying things like, “everyone loves me” or “everyone hates me.”‘
